The young peoples contribution will be supplemented by presentations from leading researchers and practitioners, including:
Richard Rose, Director of the Mary Walsh Institute at SACCS, a recognised
authority on life story work and developer of MA level qualifications in
therapeutic child care; presenting on 'techniques and tools for direct work with traumatised children.'
Dr Christine Harrison, Associate Professor, University of Warwick, an
experienced social worker, previous Director of the Centre for the study of
Safety and Well-being presenting on 'the impact of living with domestic
violence on children and young people.'
Professor Kevin Browne, Chair of Forensic Psychology and Child Health,
University of Nottingham, Head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaboration Centre on Child Care and Protection in the UK, Consultant to the European Commission, UNICEF and the WHO, author and presenter in over 50 countries will present on 'the consequences of growing up with physical or sexual maltreatment in the family, risk and protective factors.'
Hilary Horan, Children's Services Manager, Barnardo's, previous guardian ad litem and chair of child protection conferences, current manager of a number of family group conference (FGC) and advocacy services presenting on 'the importance of advocacy for children and young people in the child protection process.'
Professor Gill Hague, University of Bristol, Co-director of the Violence
against Women Research Group, has worked on issues of violence and abuse for more than 30 years attempting to raise the voices of abuse survivors with more recent research on children's perspectives. She will present on ‘Key research recommendations on consulting children about domestic violence.’
Nick Thayre, Manager Family Group Conferences (FGC) Torbay presenting on 'FGCs and kinship care - helpful or harmful for children abused in their family?'
